Le Roy - Les Tilleuls

Les Tilleuls was the house of the Le Roy family in Guernsey for many years.

These images are of the house taken recently. The front view of the house shows how the building grew from one original building - you can also see where the windows were reduced in size when window taxes were introduced.

Another interesting feature is the 'galeting' (galet - biscuit) between the stones visible on the second image. This was a decorative form of using small blue or black flat beach stones pressed into the mortar between the main wall stones.

The house is one of two which were built straddling the civil parish boundary, which in this case goes through the front and back doors. Legend has it that the owner paid rates to the parish in which he slept!
