Research has shown Nicolle is from the Greek, nike - victory, laos - people. Latinised to Nicolaus in the XIIIth century. In the form Nicol has been known in Britanny from 1427. The name Colinet is derived from the diminutive of Nicol - Nicolin - Nicolet - Colin - Colinette and is recognised in Britanny from about 1361.
